Ramayana in the Modern World

Ramayana- India’s Vedic ancient story has its depiction in the Modern world, one such scene from Ramayana which reminds me is the Scenario, when Rama is sent to Exile and when Bharata is asked to sit on Throne of Kingdom of Kosala, Ayodhya being its capital to Rule the Kingdom, He refused to sit on the throne, as for him his eldest brother Rama was the most deserving of the throne and then what he said to his mother Kaikeyi , shows his greatness, Is he not the eldest of us all? After death of Father is it not his right to sit on the throne, to be the King? Is it proper for a younger brother to covet what belongs to his elder brother as matter of right? My only duty is to obey his commandments, to serve him and assist him. Saying this he left to meet Rama in forest, to ask for forgiveness for what his Mother had done and to bring Rama back to Ayodhya. When he met Rama both wept on their father’s separation from the worldly life. Rama guided Bharata and told him how to rule the Kingdome. Bharata took Rama’s sandals saying he will govern under their auspices. This particular scene shows and teaches us what a brother’s love is. What selflessness is and what purity of relationship is.

Modern World:- There are a lot of controversies that are happening around us, and every individual only sees the part that media shows us. Media plays an important role in public opinion making. However it takes an eagle’s eye to find positivity inspite of the controversies. One such situation I would like to bring out for attention is on Shree J. Jayalalithaa, who was the former chief minister who has an amazing ability to convert her staunch critics and foes into long lasting friends. Indians know her as AMMA. As J. Jayalalithaa was found guilty in the assets case, she was forced to resign. Several people committed suicide to show their grief of AMMA getting punished. Somewhere this reflects the love of the people for the ruler. In Ramayana, When King Dasharata was on his death bed, the whole Kingdome grieved. When the new chief minister Mr. Panneerselvam was chosen to sit on AMMA’S seat, He exactly reacted like how Bharata did in Ramayana, he refused, and only after Jayalalithaa convinced him to take her position, and he said he will govern until AMMA Returns. Before taking the oath he took Amma’s blessing too. This real life incidence shows the beauty of depiction from our ancient Indian stories. It shows that there is some teaching in every aspect of life. It is only upon us, to realize.
